London NFL Team
With a London based NFL franchise in the offing and a potential £100m income for that franchise is it worth the David's bidding for it and taking the team from wembley to the OS?

The London Hammers with a claret and blue kit would be pretty cool and boost our brand around the world.

Whatcha reckon?

Re: London NFL Team
If the team made the playoffs and won people would drop their knickers and want to go and become fans. If they were shit people would be like 'fuck that im a bills/fins/skins/raiders fan'.

Could go either way I could see it being a huge hit though.

Depends what the Players' Association negotiates as a deal, if its like the NHL where all players no matter the team get paid in one currency (American) then it could be an issue.

That being said in the NHL, American (the usually more expensive currency) is that of the majority of the teams (23-7) whereas in the NFL the more expensive currency would be in the the massive minority. So voting at owners meetings would probably be dicey.

Re: London NFL Team
There won't be an NFL team in London, because like Canadian teams in the NHL, it will put the Murucans at a financial disadvantage due to the currency difference,

Re: London NFL Team
In a way I think this 3 games a season with a variety of teams attracting all sorts of fans may be more successful than a London based team.
If it turns to shit the 'fans' will drop it damned quick and if it is successful the US based teams will kick up and undermine it.

The novelty value of this and some NBA games will work but the next step might be one too many.
My personal view is that sporting events should stay home and the overseas fans should go to them.
Have been to Yankee Stadium to see the NY Yankees but don't want to see them at Wembley.

There are only 8 games to fill the ground.

NFL will sell out in London.

It makes sense because the UK isn't too different culturally from the US and from NY or Boston London is no further than San Francisco. The attraction to the NFL is beyond the UK alone its having its product in Europe itself. The NHL and NBA have advantages of being popular because there are leagues abroad. The NFL doesn't have this. Even baseball is played more places. But its a popular TV sport. Having a team in England means people anywhere in Europe only have to go to England to catch a game.

Re: London NFL Team
I completely disagree with the notion that English fans won't support a London based team because they already have their allegiance. Look at how many professional sports teams move. They always find support. Granted, this happens more in the US than here but people like the idea of supporting their "local team".

You're supporting the city as much as anything else. Any proud Londoner with an interest in NFL will surely want a London based NFL franchise to do well.

There's naff all chance of an NFL stadium being built in the hammersmith and Fulham council area. Utterly delusional.

earls court...

Chelsea are resticted by the national trust keeping a football pitch there. Fulham not so much, the cottage is a listed building.

Re: London NFL Team
absolutely doolally if you think that Khan or anyone else is going to find a plot of land to build on anywhere near Fulham. How much richer is Abramovich, and he's practically given up. The NFL will ask for all sorts of tax breaks and special favours out of the government to base a team here, and I actually the believe the government would be stupid enough to give them what they want.

Fair enough. Where's he going to build it then?
